If you’ve ever watched a Floor Hub team during installation, you might notice something curious: they leave a small gap (about 10 to 15 mm) between the edge of the parquet and the wall. While it might look like a measurement error to the untrained eye, this gap is actually your floor’s “safety valve.”

  • The Philosophy of a “Living Floor”
Wood, even in the highest quality parquet, is a material that “breathes.” It reacts to humidity and temperature changes, expanding slightly in the summer and contracting in the winter. These spaces, known as Expansion Gaps, allow the parquet to move freely without hitting the walls.
  • What Happens Without These Gaps?
? Without this breathing room, when the wood expands and finds no space to go, the planks will begin to push against each other. This results in “buckling” (the floor lifting up) or annoying creaking sounds whenever you walk across the room.
  • Where Do These Gaps Go?
This is where the artistry of Skirting (Baseboards) and accessories comes in. We cover these professional engineering gaps with elegant decorative trim. The “engineering trick” remains hidden under the wall, while your floor remains perfectly level and stable forever.
